yes. though i'm not sure my recent commits fix this issue, it is indeed the 
problem i am hoping to improve on.

the issue is that KWorkspace::requestShutdown(...), which was in KApplication 
in KDE3 days, was doing some potentially expensive things (e.g. syncX) with 
lots of blocking going on (e.g. dbus calls).

in kde-workspace master this is no longer the case and hopefully things will 
improve. those who can replicate the problem need to test to confirm.

as it makes libkworkspace binary incompatible with previous versions and it 
needs testing to confirm lack of regressions, i don't feel comfortable 
backporting it.
