the singleShots actually work around a problem in Qt with its event loop that 
happens when the execution path goes through an x11EventFilter. it has nothing 
to do with kwin, which is why icewm wouldn't fix anything.

there were also other fixes made previously to libtaskmanager that fixed other 
issues in it that would certainly also have been triggered. if people can find 
ways to reproduce with current (e.g. in the last 72 hours) libtaskmanager, 
then we need to find out *exactly* what they are doing to trigger the problem.
