i like the idea of a two-phase plan with the big change in january 2012. we 
need to start planning it now, though, i think so we can lay the groundwork 
for it in 4.7 and get a running start to it in the summer as soon as 4.8 dev 
starts. which, i guess, is pretty much what you and Ivan just wrote :)

it has little of use on it right now, but lets keep this discussion going and 
add things to that page as we go. i'd like us to treat that page right now as 
a brainstorm page where we can collect our ideas.
