I don't understand. Why would Qt need to implement it when back-ends handle 
the decoding?
(Phonon back-end = VLC. QtMultimedia back-end = GStreamer.)

There is only one proper API and that's VA-API -- a freedesktop.org standard 
with back-ends for all common GPUs.
