May I ask why the video has to be embedded into QGW when playing full-screen?
Why not simply launch a new always-on-top-and-fullscreen window?

IMO all input handling should be done using Gluon 
<http://gitorious.org/gluon>. It's a KDE project targeted at game developers.
I've once read somewhere that Gluon supports all kinds of input devices and in 
case Gluon doesn't support Wiimotes, maybe it'll be better to add the support 
there.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if a HTPC with Plasma Mediacenter will end up 
as part-time gaming console anyway...
