Err... I'm not sure if I understand correctly, but are you suggesting to check 
at runtime whether "extender arrows" (small arrows, whatever you'd like to 
call it) are present in arrows.svg and use them if present, but fall back to 
the generic arrows (also from arrows.svg) otherwise?

If so, I can whip up a patch for quicklaunch and systray immediately. Who 
would I have to bug / ask in order to get the changes applied to the themes we 
are shipping (kde-artists?).
