instead of writing N different DataEngines and trying to keep them all in sync
with each other, what about writing one DataEngine for, e.g. fetching images,
and then allow different backends to feed that one DataEngine?
this is how weather and comics work, and it keeps the interface to the
visualizations consistent because as far as they are concerned there only is
one interface.
