it's pretty easy, really: just see how long it takes to send 1000 pixmaps
across the bus using the two methods. this is a lot easier than measuring
memory (hard to tease it out of the kernel and separate all the noise from the
data) or graphics speed (where there are so many layers and subsystems at
play) ...
