it can't be based on applet name. that will tie themes much, much too tightly 
to a specific set of applets and will lead to people doing all sorts of silly 
things like trying to name their widgets the same as ones we ship to get the 
"right" effects. no... we need some other approach..

what is the precise effect you are looking for here? e.g. what does it do for 
different widgets currently?
