unfortunately for this case, "window group" already has a meaning on x11. 
probably best not to make things too confusing between APIs :)

setWindowsToPreview is fine, and setWindowToPreview can just be a convenience 
method that uses setWindowsToPreview internally (with a list of count() 1)

yes, the tooltip would need to create one preview widget per winId to preview. 
then kwin should fill in each of those widgets with their respective 
thumbnails.
