Smarter desktop applet placement

I've written some code to do resizing better. Though I must say it's been
quite hard, I hope I got everything right now. I'm attaching a small Qt
app that demonstrates the capabilities of my layout. To try it out, just
compile with qmake && make, run it and try dragging the left border of the
window around.
