I just run the Daily build from kde 4.1 an still can't figure out how to move plasmoids around the panel. My approach would be:
Go in the panelsettingsmode. Have there a button like "move applets" or somthing in order to move afterwards the applets around.

Just my two cents. By the way, Plasma got/get realy nice;)
