one of the purposes of DataEngines is to provide a consistent (and simplified) 
interface to various data sets, easing both the learning curve for people as 
well as allowing for simplified script bindings. the added benefits of shared 
resources, etc are nice side effects as well, of course.

i hope to achieve similar wins with Service.

of course, it all it becomes is a great big 1:1 wedge between solid and the 
applet, we'll have failed in that. i don't think that'll be the case, but 
we'll see.
