"... I’m on the fence about the scrollbar issue. I could understand how some people might find a scrollbar on their beautiful Desktop an eye sore, but I don’t know if it would actually reduce performance in anything. The problem with using Apple’s solution is that we don’t use it anywhere else in the environment, and I’m not entirely convinced that arrows are a better control than a scrollbar. It might be possible to look in to shading/fading the scrollbar when the widget is not in focus. That way it is out of the foreground, but still there in the UI and user’s mind. When the Plasma widget is in focus again, the user isn’t surprised when widgets start appearing."
