Background: open KMenu, grab some app, d&d it to panel or to desktop (in this case to desktop).

And this is scary :-) In KDE3.5.9 after d&d item was either copied or user was presented two option -- copy or link (or cancel). I could do whatever I needed to, only to the copied item (without affecting the rest of the system).

So it seems in KDE4 it is actually a link, not a copy. This is bad:
a) link only is not intuitive, because in real life you have only objects, it is hard to explain users who just want to set their desktop nicely, that there are many-as-one (and as effect they cannot have different labels for app on desktop and KMenu)
b) this is regression and change of well established behaviour
