please remove the frame for regular icons (like in KDE3)

Do the same in KDE3 and KDE4. Add Konq. icon to the desktop (in KDE4 additionally lock the widgets). 

KDE3: Konq icon
KDE4: Konq icon in awkward gray frame.

Please, show regular icons as in KDE -- simply, just icons. It looks way better.
