People tend to love Kickoff as soon as they discover how to add favorites. By defaulting to the favorites tab, Kickoff is extremely pleasant to use once you have set up your favorites.

However many people don't understand that, because they never tried right-clicking a menu entry.

I believe that when the mouse is over a menu entry, a button (just a "+" icon) "Add to Favorites" should smoothly appear next to it. Much like in the list of plasma widgets in Plasma "add widgets" dialog. Thus adding a favorite would just require one left button click, and more importantly, would be much more discoverable.
