it seems a bit odd to me to be still calling it a boxlayout with this extra 
feature.
I have a really uncomfortable feeling about this, but I can't quite put my 
finger on *why*...

perhaps because qt4.4 will bring changes to widget and layout stuff, and I'm 
not sure what'll happen to this then.

other than that... well, your if statements need to follow the style guide 
still :)

my mind is on tomorrow's exam, so I haven't tested the code or thought about 
how well it actually works. maybe someone else can comment on that.
