hm.. i'm running kde4 on an athlon 64 here as well (3200+ iirc) and at 1450x900 res it's pretty much instant. sometimes on first show it takes up to 2 seconds, but sometimes it's also pretty instant on first show.

if you do get oprofile output, that would be perfect. interesting to see what is happening there. thanks =)
