On my desktop, compositing is active with the proprietary Nvidia driver.

Just as I'm typing this bugreport in Firefox, every keystroke makes the pager plasmoid flicker. It also seems to slow everything down, as typing feels very sluggish.

I'm not really sure that the pager plasmoid is the cause, as I sometime see other plasmoids flicker (always in the task manager plasmoid, never on the desktop). But the flicker in the pager is the only one that I can reliably reproduce.
