It is possible that I might be using the opensource driver, and not the nvidia one.  When I logged back into my Kubuntu 3.5 session I had checked that I wanted to use the nvidia driver but it said I wasn't using it....but I guess thats a different story.

I will try and load the beta driver and see if my machine will play nice.
