looks good; i haven't applied and seen the visual effect of it, though. 

one small suggestion: the mask painting can probably remain in resizeEvent. 
that should happen less than paintEvent (following the simple logic that a 
resize always causes a paint, but not all paints are resizes) and the mask 
should only need to be set on resize anyways, so this would save a bit of 
painting and bitmap creation and mask setting.. =)

otherwise, once svn is open again, please commit.
