I have to echo comment #39. Give me a drop down someplace that has: 'on', 'auto-hide', 'auto-hide on widget lock', and 'off'. Heck, default it to 'on' under the 'sensible defaults' or 'it needs exposure' mantras. Just give reasonable people a way to make it go away easily.
