the work at Xerox Park was not that magnificent. it was a tremendous stride forward, but that's like saying "the Model T ford is all we need. ever." when it comes to cars.

conventional icons actually don't work very well. they are being phased out over time.

it's called KDE3. as for standing in the way of progress, thank GOD you weren't around when the people at Xerox Park (and elsewhere, it wasn't just them) were trying to leave the "well known, works for everybody, docs not necessary" command line driven time share model, because then you wouldn't even have those "conventional icons" to complain about. they wouldn't exist.
