that's the idea behind DataEngine (and eventually Service). they are
purposefully a bit simplistic in the interface (better for scripting, better
for visual design tools), but offer much of this.
we already have a DataEngine that offers file system access, actually =)

when we get to the GUI designer (4.2?) the idea will be to allow easy "fitting
together" of data, visualizations and transformations (as well as the visual
bling too, of course =) ... we may be one step closer to this 'plash' =)
