multiple desktops and background painting

Does this mean you want to use compositing for sharing the wallpapers between 
containments? (that'd make perfect sense to me if you want to save memory (it 
should do that, no?) and startup overhead due to loading and decoding only 
one large image , or starting an animated desktop background only once 
instead of doing that multiple times. 

It would need a non-composite fallback then anyway (if it's supposed to be 
available w/o composite). Funny side-effect: compositing would help to 
prevent overhead.

There probably is a whole class of things which will just only be available w/ 
compositing, the question is where to draw the line. It's a trade-off between 
pain to implement, resource consumption and maintainability.
