debian may provide debug-packagres. This means, that there is e.g. a "kdebase4" and a "kdebase4-dbg" around for KDE 4.0.x. The later are then the debug-packages and a "apt-get install kdebase4-dbg" should replace the "kdebase4" with the "kdebase4-dbg" package which then provides more useful backtraces if something crashes but is also slighly slower.
But be careful here since it may also the case, that you can destroy your kde-setup that way and if you are not familar with how to solve conflicts of packages it will be probably a difficult job to get everything working again...
