the windowing system only has the concept of the currently active desktop,
which with composition managers may not be the only desktop being viewed.
that's the problem.

multiple containments are only a *possibility* with this. they are not the
solution or even what would first happen. it's multiple *views* so a single
containment, if it wishes to offer variance by virtual desktop, still needs
to implement this internally.

that's why we'd keep the default configuration as is, with one view per screen
that publishes as its desktop whatever the current virtual desktop is.
