Small addition: The remove/replace isn't making all the buttons small, it's making maximum space used for the tasks small: effectively the same size as the K icon (probably width=height). The difference is that it means only one single task button, scaled to a small single line, is shown.
The actual plasma container "task manager" remains the correct size, so it looks as if internal record of the space available is being borked.
