hm.. well, the plan was to move a lot of the code from the desktop applet to 
the URL applet. but yes, i'm all for adding this back to the build.

yes, love the regressions and wish i could pay attention to them more but i'm 
needing to get some other basic functionality working by next wednesday. like 
panels ;) after beta3, though, we *really* need to have a "kill, kill, kill 
the regressions" day or something =)

0 and 1 are the service name (applet type) and the applet id. i probably ought 
to include a convenience/safety method for accessing these things.
