Well, that's a bug in HAL. I'd be surprised if it'd be persistent to HAL 
restarts though.

No, it's me being tired. I should have written "Mountpoints are known 
*reliable* only when the device is mounted". For some devices it can 
perfectly be unknown.

You don't need as much information for the other ones IMHO, they're just 
drives having a bus and a given type. Only Optical drives have so many 
varieties (and varieties the user care about apparently...).

OK. I'll see if I can find sometime. But if I work on this one you'll have to 
check the size problems with the handle (all the issues left with the applet 
handle boil down to the way size is managed in applets). Deal? :-)
