resizing, sure. zooming, no.

the point of zooming out is not to see smaller, less comprehensible versions 
of the actual objects, but to see what matters at that level of detail, e.g. 
that you've got 3 groups and that group called "office" over there has a 
folder listing, some app icons and a weather applet.

as richard noted on irc, it's a lot like text greeking.

so as to your mockup, i think it would be a really nice way to implement such 
an applet given resizing and FormFactor. zoom is a completely different issue 
=)
