Take a look at KMenu, taskbar, desktopview, clock, systray, panels (I am using KDE3) -- all those are configurable. You can use them, you can turn them off. You can place them wherever you want. I don't know how about other KDE users but I am used to such degree of my freedom.

What is the point of showing digital clock if you don't use it. Or you have another means of use it (for example -- show on demand, e.g. keyboard shortcut).

Now, where this zoom tool fits in? You cannot turn it off -- no matter how you use it and no matter if you use it at all. This is usability concern and I think valid one.
