this was already discussed, and "widgets" was chosen. plasmoids are actually a subset of widgets; plasma can display superkaramba widgets too, and at some point (kde 4.1?) support for osx dashboard widgets will be added.

also, I believe that this type of suggestion is more suited to the mailing list (panel-devel), not bugzilla. :)
