that's essentially what we'd do with an IPC based system. there would be a 
central manager (i was hoping DBUS would offer this for us via system buses) 
for all the data and 0 or more consumer of said data.

Lubos pointed out that relying directly on IPC (DCOP or DBUS) could lead to 
locking issues making the whole of plasma unresponsive. my thought is that we 
would either do all of this communication in a separate thread or else resort 
to a full on daemon.
