people seem to be replying to me personally vs the panel-devel list. let's 
keep it on the list =)

it's not about being necessary or unecessary to the function of the code. one 
of the biggest problems with kicker historically has been unclear designs and 
cruft. this generally has made it very hard to hack on it, which is why 
nobody did for so long =) everyone just stayed away from it because it was 
known to be ugly .. heh.. code clarity may not affect the function of the 
code directly, but it certainly has very valuable mid- and long-term value.

if you wish to commit it as is, i'll go in and refactor it .. so i'll leave it 
up to you whether you want or have time to do that .. if not, then i will. 
but it needs to get done.

hrm. adjust probably isn't the best word... perhaps it should say something 
about recently used apps.. and perhaps there should just be a Configure entry 
and "Adjust automatically", with some clearer terms, should go into the 
Configuration dialog.

otherwise i think it's good enough.
