Hello,
Not sure if that's any helpful to you but the guy from dropbox.com<http://dropbox.com> talks at some point about reverse engineering MacOSX/Finder for them to work. So there may be no "official" way to do it (at least by 2011 when the talk was).

Hi,
we're currently working on icon overlays to indicate the syncing state of files in the common file manager applications. That requires, in addition to code in mirall, plugins for the common file manager applications.
We know our way around in KDE but we wonder if there are specialists out there who might help us with the others which are:
* Windows Explorer
* GNOME Nautilus
* Mac Finder
Please let us know here on the list or in private mail if you're interested.
Thanks,
Klaas
