this depends on what exactly is important for you.
First it´s free software so you can see what happens with your data and your can change and improve it as you want.
ownCloud can be installed on any machine your want. So your can decide where your data is stored depending on where your have storage, the storage price or the legal implications of the storage location.
Integration: ownCloud can be integrated with other systems for example ldap for authentication.
Features: ownCloud has more features than dropbox for example a music player for accessing your music or a calendar and contacts application and more.
