I don't think this is (was) a regression. I think it's just a performance
bottleneck that normally is not noticeable, but with certain PDFs, for some
reason, it is very very noticeable and annoying. I can consistently reproduce
the error on different devices in all IETF generated PDFs, as well as with
certain long arXiv PDFs. In the worst cases, there is a lag of ~5 seconds
between typing and seeing anything being written down, for example in an inline
note.
