another weird artifact in particular to the music PDF is when you hold Ctrl and
use the mouse wheel to zoom, you get one set of improperly rendered lines...
but then when you release the Ctrl key the improperly rendered lines change to
completely different set of improperly rendered lines.

the render engine that is triggered by releasing the Ctrl key is the same one
that is causing the random nature of the improper render.
