I don't quit understand: 
In bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439223 - mentioned above as
"duplicate of" - anyway in this bug in comment 2 there is a link to
https://invent.kde.org/graphics/okular/-/merge_requests/449 .
This "merge requiest 449" ends with a list of 80 commits done one month ago.

This looks very promising to me.
Shouldn't this be mentioned here?
