Queries regarding adding a new 'typewriter' annotation tool to the toolbar

That's not really correct, automatic saving to docdata was the default option, 
but saving to PDF has been available for years.

Also automatic saving to docdata is now gone, you either save back to the 
original file format or you save to the .okular format, which is the file + 
docdata, but basically you should not be having a any annotations under 
.local/share/okular/docdata unless you're using an old version of Okular.
