Hi Greg,
that's a pretty old version you have.  Can you try a newer one?  On my machine
I have poppler 0.48 and okular from git master (admittedly, that is very new),
and I don't get crashes.  I also tried 'atril', the (poppler-based) viewer from
mate 1.16, and it doesn't crash either.
