One thing to remember about poppler, it's tied to PDF, i.e. we can't implement 
random stuff in there (e.g. annotations that do XYZ) if that annotation that 
does XYZ are not part of the PDF standard.

Sounds good, make sure you go thorugh the linked review request and read the 
comments, maybe there's some code you can reuse :)
