Option 3, do it on right click after text is selected

The one that involves less code to maintain but is still usable enough, which 
one of those it is, not sure :D

Maybe you can give a quick try to implement both 1 and 2 (3 seems similar 
enought to 2 in complexity) so you get a feeling of which one will be more 
complex?
