Ok, I can confirm the RESOLVED UPSTRAM.

I saw that libpoppler4 0.10.1 recieved a patch fromthe openSUSE repositories
which caused the trouble. Removing the patch fixed the issue. But since this
was a patch with backported security fixes, I cloned the latest version of
poppler from GIT, built and installed it. All PDFs work fine now again.
