I must admit that after reading all comments I can't fully understand the cons
of adding the option to hide the bottom bar are so I would be grateful if a
developer could shed some light on that particular point. In my understanding I
belive the main concern is cramming too many options in the "settings" menu.

While my personal opinion is that adding such option won't be excessive and
would lead to consistency (as many pointed out, every other GUI element can be
hidden), what do you think about a solution similar to the one adopted by
Gwenview for its sidebar (the “Splitter Collapser”,
http://agateau.wordpress.com/2009/05/17/gwenview-2-3-sidebar/)?

I think these would be the consequences:

* PROS:
  - People who want to hide the bottom bar could do it.
  - No need to add a new setting option.
  - Easily discoverable.
  - The bar could be easily restored if accidentally hidden, even by a novice
user.
  - Already in use in other KDE software.

* CONS
  - Inconsistency with the other "hidable bars".
  - Some clutter on the GUI (the collapser would probably be too visible).

To mitigate the last concern, perhaps the option to hid the bar could be
located on a context menu in that bar. The collapser would then only be shown
when the bar is hidden. Anyways, I think this could be all a bit contrived.
