Version:           0.10.2 (using KDE 4.4.2) 
OS:                Linux

are good but the content characters are disfigured)

According to a responder in poppler mailing list, poppler-qt4 has a switch to
enable hinting in all fonts in a document (disabled by default), but
Okular does not touch the switch.

P.S. The above two PDF files are correctly shown by Xpdf ver.3.02.
