[Okular-devel] Okular failed to show characters

Hi, I am using Okular 0.10.2 under Ubuntu 10.04 with GNOME desktop environemnt.

Okular failed to show the following two PDF files:

http://www.nctu.edu.tw/intro/intro70.pdf (This is a map for school campus. There must be Chinese
characters in the building blocks and in the roads)

http://www.thsrc.com.tw/event/88relief/file/88relief_form.pdf (all Chinese characters in the form
are gone in Okular)

They are correctly shown by Xpdf ver.3.02

According to one responder in the mail list of poppler, poppler is not to blame after his
testing.



Another information from him is that

poppler-qt4 has a switch to enable hinting in all fonts in a document (disabled by default), but
Okular does not touch the switch.

This led to breaking of Chinese characters in the following hyperlinks:

http://www.crossstrait.nccu.edu.tw/download/download2_4.pdf

http://psroc.phys.ntu.edu.tw/bimonth/v27/395.pdf (title and subtitle characters are good but the
content characters are bad)

Again, they are correctly shown by Xpdf ver.3.02.
