Let me first say I appreciate the work being done on okular (and all of KDE).
Thank you very much for that.

That being said, there is another case where I find it useful to hide the
bottom bar: in the okular plugin for firefox by J. Sanders. With all the
toolbars/menubars of firefox, those of okular itself and the bottom bar, there
isn't much space left for the pdf file itself, unfortunately.

I am also in favor of putting the bottom bar elements in the toolbar (as in the
evil acroread :-).
